STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Penn State Altoona women's soccer was dealt a 3-1 loss at the hands of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Franciscan University on Wednesday afternoon.
Franciscan (7-8, 5-3 AMCC) was helped by a hat trick from Megan Luiso.
Penn State Altoona (5-10, 3-4 AMCC) got a goal from Shoshana Mahoney (Sweet Valley, PA/Lake-Lehman). Sydney Emershaw (Dallas, PA/Dallas) made 10 stops between the pipes for the Lady Lions.
Luiso put Franciscan on the scoreboard at 24:26, but Mahoney scored her team-best 16th goal of the season for Penn State Altoona at 37:33 to knot the score 1-1.
But the Lady Barons grabbed the lead shortly before halftime, getting another goal by Luiso at 42:43. Luiso tacked on an insurance goal at 88:16, netting her third of the afternoon to make it 3-1.
Franciscan led Penn State Altoona 24-8 in total shots attempted and 13-4 in shots on goal. The Lady Barons also led 6-3 in corner kicks.
Next up for Penn State Altoona women's soccer is the team's final home game of the regular season this Saturday, October 21 at 3:15 p.m. against AMCC opponent D'Youville College. It is also the Lady Lions' Senior Day, as senior forward Mahoney will be recognized in a pregame ceremony.
