Lions Place Six in CSC Academic All-District At-Large Category
GREENWOOD, Ind. – A total of six Penn State Altoona student-athletes from the men's golf and men's volleyball teams garnered academic recognition on Tuesday, when the College Sports Communicators announced the At-Large category of its NCAA Division III Academic All-District team.
To be eligible for a spot on an Academic All-District team, student-athletes must meet certain academic and athletic requirements. Academically, student-athletes must be at least sophomores while holding cumulative grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher. For golfers, nominees must have been in the lineup for at least 75 percent of their squad's team scoring events, or in the lineup at the conference championship tournament. For volleyball, nominees must have competed in at least 90 percent of their team's matches or started in at least two-thirds of the matches. Nominators could submit up to six eligible student-athletes.
Four men's golfers and two men's volleyball players took spots on the CSC's NCAA Division III Academic All-District At-Large team:
Men's Golf:
-junior Jack Ankeny (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township); majoring in Business
-junior Daniel Batrus (Altoona, PA/Altoona); majoring in Business
-sophomore Nicholas Helsley (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle); majoring in Kinesiology
-junior Nicky Riscica (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North); majoring in Business
Men's Volleyball:
-sophomore libero Adam Chan (Framingham, MA/Framingham); majoring in Marketing
-sophomore opposite hitter Caleb Fries (Altoona, PA/Altoona); majoring in Architectural Engineering
