Women's Swimming Wins Tri-Meet at Lycoming
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team competed in its first tri-meet of the season on Saturday afternoon, when the Lions faced off against non-conference opponents Lycoming College and King's College at Lycoming's Lamade Gym Natatorium.
Penn State Altoona got wins against both teams, a 128-60 victory against Lycoming and a 140-19 victory against King's College. The Lions' day was highlighted by ten first place finishes and six second place finishes.
The Lions got their first win in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, when Anna Heller (Chesapeake, VA/Huntingdon) posted a time of 12:02.89 to finish in first place. Ashley Moretz (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) finished second place, posting a time of 12:37.06.
In the 200 Yard Freestyle, the Lions had two of the event's top three finishers. Claire Smith Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley) finished first, clocking in at 2:11.91. Paige Goray (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) finished second, clocking a time of 2:17.78.
The Lions had top two finishers in the 200 Yard Individual Medley as Alexis Buchala (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua) clocked a time of 2:33.78 to finish first and Isabella Rhoades (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) clocked a time of 2:47.23 to finish in second.
Penn State Altoona had three of top five finishers in the 50 Yard Freestyle, with Victoria Oldford (Bucks County, PA/Palisades) finishing first with a time of 27.10, Julia Daley (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) finishing third with a time of 29.22, and Goray finishing fourth with a time of 29.33.
In the 100 Yard Butterfly, Drew Porter (Centreville, VA/Centreville) clocked in with a time of 1:07.00 to secure first place and Téah Sponsler (Halifax, PA/Halifax) clocked a time of 1:14.47 to secure second place.
In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Smith and Daley both finished in the top three. Smith finished second with a time of 1:00.56 and Daley finished third with a time of 1:05.45.
In the 500 Yard Freestyle, Buchala clocked in at 5:59.97 to finish in first place, while Sophia Cowher (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) clocked in at 6:46.78 to finish in fourth place.
The team of Heller, Goray, Rhoades, and Oldford competed in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, winning first place with a time of 1:56.93.
Sponsler and Daley got their second podium finishes in the 100 Yard Backstroke, as Sponsler finished first with a time of 1:12.48 and Daley finished second with a time of 1:14.13. Moretz also competed in the 100 Yard Backstroke, finishing seventh with a time of 1:18.21.
Porter got her second first place finish in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, clocking a time of 1:19.00.
In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Buchala, Heller, Moretz, and Cowher competed, finishing in first place with a time of 4:24.19.
The Penn State Altoona women's swimming schedule will take a month off before returning on Saturday, January 17, 2026, when they will face Saint Vincent College. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
