Baseball Announces 2022 Schedule
ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona baseball program released its 2022 season schedule on Wednesday morning.
The Lions are poised to return to a full slate of 40 games in the spring, including eight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheaders* and the team's annual southern trip to compete in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Lions will also host a total of nine games at home on the campus' Stewart Athletic Field.
Penn State Altoona starts its 2022 season in late February with a pair of non-conference doubleheaders on the road, traveling to play Hood College (Saturday, February 19 at 12:00 p.m.) and Bridgewater College (Saturday, February 26 at 12:00 p.m.).
After that, the Lions will embark on their yearly trip to central Florida to face Division III non-conference opponents from around the country in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The team expects to compete in 10 games over the span of Friday, March 4 through Saturday, March 12. Dates, opponents, times, and locations are to-be-determined and will be announced at a future date.
Penn State Altoona returns to Pennsylvania to round out the month of March against five regional non-conference opponents, with all of those games occurring away from home. The Lions travel to play Saint Vincent College (Wednesday, March 16 at 1:00 p.m.) in a doubleheader before hitting the road to face Thiel College (Saturday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m.) in a single, nine-inning game. Following that Thiel game will be a junior varsity contest.
The Lions wrap up March with road doubleheaders at Wilson College (Wednesday, March 23 at 1:00 p.m.), Juniata College (Tuesday, March 29 at 1:00 p.m.), and Penn College (Thursday, March 31 at 1:00 p.m.).
Next, Penn State Altoona faces a busy schedule during April, in which the team will play all eight of its conference opponents. At home, the Lions will host AMCC doubleheaders with Pitt-Greensburg (Wednesday, April 6 at 1:00 p.m.), Alfred State College (Saturday, April 9 at 1:00 p.m.), Hilbert College (Saturday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m.), and Pitt-Bradford (Tuesday, April 26 at 1:00 p.m.). On the road, Penn State Altoona will take on La Roche University (Tuesday, April 12 at 1:00 p.m.), Penn State Behrend (Saturday, April 16 at 1:00 p.m.), Mount Aloysius College (Wednesday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m.), and Medaille College (Saturday, April 30 at 1:00 p.m.) in conference twinbills. In addition to its AMCC lineup in April, the Lions will also host non-conference opponent Lancaster Bible College for a single, nine-inning game on Tuesday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m.
