Storms Derail Lions’ Doubleheader with Trine

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Inclement weather prevented the Penn State Altoona baseball team from playing its doubleheader with Trine University on Sunday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park.

The Lions started game one of Sunday's twinbill with Trine, only to have play halted in the top of the second inning when thunderstorms hit the area. After a lengthy delay, play was ultimately suspended for the day by the RussMatt tournament officials, and the games were postponed. The doubleheader is unlikely to be made up over the remainder of Penn State Altoona's week in the tournament.

In light of the Lions losing their games on Sunday, Penn State Altoona will now forgo its first day off this week to compete in a single, nine-inning game tomorrow, Monday, March 4. The Lions will face Anna Maria College under the lights at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport. First pitch at field #1 is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

Penn State Altoona jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in game one. Jake Hillard (State College, PA/State College) and Tyreke Green (Altoona, PA/Altoona) led off the frame with singles, then both moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. A Jonathan Rauch (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) groundout brought in one run, and Corey Chamberlain's (Claysburg, PA/Claysburg-Kimmel) sacrifice fly to center made it 2-0.

Eric Seick (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) started at pitcher for Penn State Altoona, tossing a scoreless 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout before play was suspended after the first out of the top half of the second inning.
