Lions Place Ninth After Day One of Allegheny Invite

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team battled the weather conditions on Sunday, during the opening round of the two-day Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational, hosted by Allegheny College at the Country Club of Meadville.

While golfing in cool, rainy, and windy weather throughout the day, Penn State Altoona shot 316 as a team to finish the round in ninth place out of 16 squads.

Division II Gannon University held down first place with 283, host Allegheny was second with 289, and Washington & Jefferson College came in third place with 302.

Penn State Altoona finished ahead of fellow Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponents Penn State Behrend (13th place, 337) and Pitt-Greensburg (16th place, 362), while falling four shots behind conference opponent Mount Aloysius College (eighth place, 312).

Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) shot 75 for Penn State Altoona to tie for 16th place individually out of 83 competitors, and Owen Wise (Lewistown, PA/Mifflin County) carded 77 to tie for 26th place.

Joey Toth (South Park, PA/South Park) and Jack DiTrani (Hinsdale, IL/Benet Academy) each shot 82 to tie for 52nd place, and Jacob Carlin (Fayetteville, PA/Chambersburg) scored 83 to tie for 57th place.

More challenging weather conditions are expected for the second and final round of the invitational, which is tomorrow, Monday, September 26. The round is scheduled to tee off at 8:30 a.m.
