Lions Golf Places Sixth at Northeast Elite

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team wrapped up its weekend in Lycoming County on Sunday, when the Lions competed in the second and final day of the Northeast Elite at Williamsport Country Club.

Penn State Altoona shot 292 as a team in round two, totaling 582 across two days to finish in sixth place out of 20 teams.

Trinity College (CT) won the tournament with a combined, two-round score of 565. The University of Rochester finished as the runner-up with 573, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute was third with 579.

Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) had Penn State Altoona's lowest score of Sunday's round, as he shot an even-par 71 to finish with a two-day score of 143 to come in a tie for 11th place out of 104 individuals in the tournament. Joey Sabol (State College, PA/State College) carded a 3-over par score on Sunday, shooting 74 to total 147 in the tournament and finish in a tie for 31st place.

Nicky Riscica (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) was 4-over par on Sunday, tallying 148 for the weekend to end in a tie for 39th place. Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) shot 77 in round two, totaling 149 in two days to end the weekend in a tie for 43rd place. Nicholas Helsley (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) was 1-over on Sunday, finishing with a total score of 152 to come in a tie for 64th place individually.

Ethan Ellis (Pittsburgh, PA/North Catholic), competing as an individual, shot 79 to finish the weekend with a two-round score of 154, taking a tie for 74th place on the player leaderboard.

Next up, Penn State Altoona men's golf travels to Mercer County this upcoming Thursday, October 3, to compete in the Grove City Invitational. The one-day event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
