Lions Take 10th at Grove City Invitational
GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team returned to action on Thursday afternoon, when it competed in the Grove City Invitational at Grove City Country Club.
The Lions combined to shoot 326 in the tournament, finishing in 10th place out of 17 teams on the par 72 course. Westminster College won the invitational with 298, Geneva College came in second place with 311, and Clarion University and Saint Vincent College tied for third with 312.
Samuel Sharbaugh (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) had Penn State Altoona's low score for the day, firing 5-over par to tie for 15th place out of 102 individuals with his score of 77. Sean McCullough (Kittanning, PA/West Shamokin) shot 6-over par, with his 78 putting him in a tie for 22nd place individually.
Daniel Batrus (Altoona, PA/Altoona) scored an 83 to finish in a tie for 62nd place, and Stephen Phillips (Gambrills, MD/DeMatha Catholic) shot 88 to tie for 85th place. Anthony Carson (Broomall, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) took 91st place with a 90.
In addition to Penn State Altoona's starting five, Luke Repko (Cresson, PA/Bishop Carroll) and Maxwell Samangy (Crafton, PA/Carlynton) both competed as individuals for the Lions. Repko carded an 80 to tie for 37th place, and Samangy shot 83 to finish in a tie for 62nd.
Penn State Altoona men's golf comes back to its home course for its next event, as the Lions will take on non-conference opponent Susquehanna University in a dual match on Saturday, October 12, at Sinking Valley Country Club. The round is scheduled to tee off at 1 p.m.
After that, Penn State Altoona will look to defend its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title, when the Lions compete in the conference championships on Monday, October 14, and Tuesday, October 15, at Butler Country Club.
