Men’s Golf Opens Lejeune Tournament in Sixth Place
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. – Penn State Altoona men's golf was back on the course Friday, competing in day one of the 52nd Annual Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Golf Championship, hosted by Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune at Paradise Point Golf Course.
By the conclusion of day one of the three-day tournament, Penn State Altoona found itself in sixth place out of 24 teams, shooting 290 on the par 72 course. The Lions' 290 is the team's third-lowest round of the 2024-25 season, and it is also the third-lowest team round in program history.
Guilford College, Swarthmore College, and Sandhills Community College all finished round one in a tie for first place with matching team scores of 287. Oglethorpe University was fourth with 288, and Drew University was one shot ahead of Penn State Altoona with 289 for fifth place.
Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) was 2-under by the conclusion of round one, tying for 10th place out of 120 individuals with his score of 70. Nicholas Helsley (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) finished the round 1-under par, tying for 15th place with 71.
Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) was even on the day, firing a 72 to finish the round in a tie for 22nd place individually. Daniel Batrus (Altoona, PA/Altoona) and Nicky Riscica (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) rounded out the lineup, with Batrus shooting 77 and Riscica carding 79.
Day two of the Camp Lejeune tournament is tomorrow, Saturday, April 5, with Penn State Altoona's tee times set to begin at 8 a.m.
