Men’s Golf Tied for Sixth in Day One of JCU Tourney

CHARDON, Ohio – After day one of the Dan Caschera Classic, hosted by John Carroll University at Sand Ridge Golf Club, the Penn State Altoona men's golf team found itself in a tie for sixth place out of 13 teams.

The Lions shot 305 as a team on the par 72 course, finishing the round in a tie for sixth place with The College of Wooster.

Host John Carroll held down the top spot on the team leaderboard with 291, Trine University was in second place with 294, and Kenyon College was in third with 296. Denison University and Wittenberg University ended the round just above Penn State Altoona, as both schools were in a tie for fourth place with matching scores of 301.

Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) was one of five golfers on the day to finish under par, firing a 2-under 70 to end the round in third place out of 78 individuals. Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) was in a tie for 13th place by the conclusion of the round, after he shot 2-over par with a 74.

Daniel Batrus (Altoona, PA/Altoona) ended the round in a tie for 48th place with 80, Nicholas Helsley (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) tied for 54th place after carding 81, and Anthony Carson (Broomall, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) shot 89 to finish the day in a tie for 76th place.

Nicky Riscica (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) also competed for the Lions as an individual, and he scored an 80 on Sunday to finish the day in a tie for 48th place individually.

Penn State Altoona men's golf resumes play in the Caschera Classic tomorrow, Monday, April 28.
