Lions’ ‘A’ Team Continues DIII Preview, ‘B’ Team Takes Sixth at Allegheny Invite

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team continued competition in two tournaments on Monday, as the Lions competed in both the NCAA Division III Fall Preview and the Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational.

Penn State Altoona's 'A' team golfed in the second of the three-day DIII Fall Preview at Mission Resort + Club, shooting 304 on the resort's El Campeon course to finish the round in a tie for 22nd place out of 24 teams.

Meanwhile, the Lions' 'B' squad wrapped up the two-day Kuhn Memorial Invitational, hosted by Allegheny College at The Country Club of Meadville. Penn State Altoona's 'B' unit finished in sixth place out of 13 teams, including their Monday score of 296.

NCAA Division III Fall Preview, Day Two

After golfing Sunday's round at the Las Colinas course at Mission Resort + Club, Penn State Altoona moved to the par 72 El Campeon course at the resort. The Lions shot 304 as a team, compiling a two-day score of 610 to end the round in a tie for 22nd place out of 24 teams.

Oglethorpe University ascended the standings to finish Monday's round in first place with a two-day score of 569. Emory University held second place with 571, and Carnegie Mellon University and Methodist University were tied for third with 578 apiece.

Nicholas Helsley (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) fired an even-par 72 in Monday's round at El Campeon, totaling 144 strokes across two days to tie for 15th place out of 120 individuals.

Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) and Nicky Riscica (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) finished the day in a tie for 91st place on the leaderboard with matching two-day scores of 154. Nusbaum shot 2-over par on Monday with a 74, while Riscica carded an 80.

Daniel Batrus (Altoona, PA/Altoona) was tied for 107th place by the conclusion of Monday's action, after he shot 78 in round two to compile a two-day score of 158. Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) was in 118th place with a total score of 168, including his 82 from Monday's round.

The third and final day of the NCAA Division III Fall Preview is tomorrow, Tuesday, September 23. The round is scheduled to begin at approximately 8 a.m.

Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational, Day Two

Penn State Altoona's other tournament of the week concluded on Monday, with the Lions' 'B' team finishing sixth out of 13 squads in Allegheny's Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational at The Country Club of Meadville. Penn State Altoona shaved 24 strokes off of Sunday's score, shooting 296 as a team at the par 72 course on Monday to total 616 for the tournament.

Jack Ankeny (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) was Penn State Altoona's top finisher, as he tied for 15th place out of 64 individual golfers with a two-day score of 151. Ankeny fired a 1-under par 71 in Monday's round to lead the way for the Lions.

Arthur Franciosa Jr. (Purchase, NY/Harrison) and Trent Querry (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) tied for 22nd place individually with combined scores of 154. Querry shot 1-over par on Monday with a 73, while Franciosa was 2-over with a 74.

Sean McCullough (Kittanning, PA/West Shamokin) tied for 32nd place with 157, including his score of 78 on Monday. Austin Duelley (Austin, TX/Lake Travis) placed 43rd with a two-round score of 161, after he shot 80 in Monday's round.
