Men’s Golf Concludes NCAA DIII Fall Preview
HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team finished up its week in the NCAA Division III Fall Preview on Tuesday, when the Lions competed in the third and final day of the tournament at Mission Resort + Club.
Golfing Tuesday's round on the par 72 El Campeon course at the resort, Penn State Altoona shot 312 as a team. The Lions recorded a three-day score of 922 to finish the tournament in 24th place.
Emory University won the tournament with a three-day score of 862, edging out second-place Methodist University and its score of 863. Oglethorpe University placed third with 864.
Penn State Altoona's Nicholas Helsley (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) was the top finisher for his team, tying for 35th place out of 120 individual golfers with a three-day score of 220, including his 4-over par 76 on Tuesday.
Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) had the Lions' low round on Tuesday when he scored a 2-over par 74, and he finished the tournament in a tie for 80th place with a total score of 228. Nicky Riscica (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) came in a tie for 109th place with a total of 237 strokes, after he shot 83 in Tuesday's action.
Daniel Batrus (Altoona, PA/Altoona) placed 114th on the leaderboard with a combined score of 241, including his 83 on Tuesday. Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) took 118th place, shooting 79 in Tuesday's round and compiling a three-day score of 247.
Next up, the Penn State Altoona men's golf team will co-host The Northeast Elite tournament with Penn College on Sunday, September 28 and Monday, September 29 at Williamsport Country Club. Sunday's round is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
