Lions Hold Sixth in Day One of Northeast Elite Tourney
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team teed off the first round of the two-day Northeast Elite tournament on Sunday, as the Lions and Penn College split hosting duties at the Williamsport Country Club.
Penn State Altoona shot 298 as a team on the par 71 course, finishing the round in sixth place out of 16 squads.
McDaniel College stood atop the leaderboard at the conclusion of day one, finishing with a team score of 283. The University of Rochester was in second place with 290, and Gettysburg College followed close behind with 291.
Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) had the Lions' low score of the day, shooting a 1-over par 72 to tie for eighth place out of 90 individual golfers. Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) finished the round 2-over par, shooting 73 to tie for 15th place on the player leaderboard.
Nicholas Helsley (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) ended the day in a tie for 29th place, carding a 4-over par score of 75. Jack Ankeny (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) carded a 78 to tie for 52nd place individually, and Nicky Riscica (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) scored an 82 to tie for 79th place.
Penn State Altoona also had Arthur Franciosa Jr. (Purchase, NY/Harrison) and Daniel Batrus (Altoona, PA/Altoona) compete as individuals. Franciosa fired a 4-over par 75 to tie for 29th place by the round's end, while Batrus shot 81 to tie for 75th place.
The second and final day of the Northeast Elite is tomorrow, Monday, September 29, with the round scheduled to begin at approximately 9 a.m.
