Lions Place Third in AMCC Championships
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team settled into third place by the conclusion of the two-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships, which wrapped up Tuesday at Toftrees Golf Resort.
The Lions compiled a team score of 324 in Tuesday's round on the par 72 course, finishing the tournament with a two-day total of 631 to place third out of eight conference teams.
Mount Aloysius College won the AMCC title with a total score of 613 and gets the conference's automatic bid to compete in the NCAA Division III Tournament in May. Pitt-Greensburg was the conference runner-up with a two-round score of 624.
Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) was Penn State Altoona's top finisher, taking a spot among the top five individuals in a field of 40 to pick up All-Tournament Team status. Bruce shot 3-over par on Tuesday with a 75, finishing in fourth place individually with a two-day score of 152.
Jack Ankeny (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) tied for 10th place individually, totaling 157 for the tournament, including his score of 83 from Tuesday. Nicholas Helsley (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) shot 84 in Tuesday's round, scoring 164 strokes in the tournament and tying for 17th place among all players.
Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) also tied for 17th place individually, shooting 88 in round two and finishing with 164 strokes. Sean McCullough (Kittanning, PA/West Shamokin) carded an 82 on Tuesday and tied for 21st place with a two-round score of 168.
Next up for the Penn State Altoona men's golf team, the Lions will host the two-day Region V Showcase at Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio next Monday, October 20 and Tuesday, October 21. Monday's round is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
