ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's soccer opened its 2019 season at home on Friday evening, when the Lions were shut out 4-0 by Transylvania University at Spring Run Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, Transylvania (1-0) recorded four tallies in the second period. The Pioneers were led by two goals from Charlie Wend, while Eddy Andrade and Mitchell Crispin each got on the scoresheet once.

Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) made five saves in goal for Penn State Altoona (0-1), and Jon Kadoch (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) recorded the Lions' lone shot on goal.

The two teams battled evenly throughout the remainder of the period and headed into halftime with a scoreless tie.

Transylvania broke the tie at 59:30, when Wend's header goal put the Pioneers on the board. The visitors doubled their lead at 72:47, when Devin Craig's short pass from the end line found Andrade, who chipped a shot into the goal to make it 2-0.

Wend added his second goal of the night at 78:18, and Crispin capped the scoring at 87:50 after taking a long bass from Luc Powell and finding the back of the net on a shot from inside the box.

Transylvania posted an 18-1 advantage in shots, including a 13-0 mark in the second half. The Pioneers led 9-1 in shots on goal and 3-0 in corner kicks.
