Men's Soccer Shutout by Pioneers

ALFRED, N.Y. - The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team traveled to New York to face Alfred State this afternoon. It would be a rough game for the Lions as they would lose 7-0.  

The game would be an offensive onslaught from Alfred State (6-2-6, 3-0-3 AMCC), with Penn State Altoona (1-11, 0-5 AMCC) struggling to get into the game offensively. The Pioneers would start the scoring 40 seconds into the game, as Brogan Cotter would put the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0.  

In the 20th minute, the Pioneers would add to their lead through a goal by Ryan Masi. Eight minutes later, Alfred State would make it 3-0 through a penalty goal by Liam Fitzpatrick. Will Leahy would score Alfred State's fourth goal of the half in the 41st minute. 

Alfred State would keep up their offensive onslaught in the second half. In the 51st minute, Masi would score his second goal of the game to make it 5-0. One minute later, Henry Leahy would add to the Pioneer's lead with his first goal of the game. In the 75th minute, Alfred State would score their seventh and final goal of the game to win 7-0. 

Tyler Tardiff (Chadds Ford, PA/Garnet Valley) would start in goal for the Lions, making five saves in 53 minutes. Alejandro Monjarretz (Managua, Nicaragua / St. Augustine Preparatory School) would play 36 minutes, making three saves. 

The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team travels to Highmark Stadium for their next game, where they will face Carlow on Wednesday, October 22. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
