Men's Swimming Places Fourth to Finish Malone Invite

CANTON, Ohio - After the final day of the Malone University Invitational on Saturday, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team found itself in fourth place out of 14 teams. 

The Lions gained 179 points in Saturday's finals, boosting their team score to 700 points through three days. Division II Gannon University ranked atop the team leaderboard with 1,929.50 points, while Oberlin College was in second place with 1,203. 

Penn State Altoona started the final day off with a top 10 finish in the 1650 Yard Freestyle. Caden Traggiai (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch) came in sixth with a time of 16:48.26.  

The Lions had a top five finisher in the 200 Yard Backstroke. Pedro Teran (Allentown, PA/Parkland) competed in the 'A' finals of the 200 Yard Backstroke, clocking in at 1:58.40 to finish in fifth place. 

Liam Fass (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) competed in the 'B' final of the 200 Yard Backstroke, clocking in at 2:11.68 to finish in 15th place. 

In the next swim, Shuo Sun (Falls Church, VA/China High Schools) led the way for the Lions, clocking a time of 47.67 to finish in 11th place after qualifying for the 'B' final. Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) was in the 'C' final, where he placed 19th overall and clocked a time of 48.31.  

The Lions had two swimmers in the 'B' final of the 200 Yard Breaststroke. Brian Nguyen (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) finished in tenth place with a time of 2:18.68. Jackson Ketterling (Bismarck, ND/Bismarck) finished in eleventh place with a time of 2:20.22.   

In the following event, the 200 Yard Butterfly, Ben Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) qualified for the 'B' final, where he placed tenth after clocking a time of 2:01.59.  

In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Teran, Sun, Traggiai, and Adam Dotts competed in the 'A' final, where they clocked a time of 3:14.25 to finish in seventh place.  

Next up, Penn State Altoona men's swimming will travel to compete against Lycoming and King's College (Pa.) on Saturday, December 6, in a 1:00 p.m. meet.
