Men’s Swimming Overpowers Lycoming, King’s in Tri-Meet

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team ended its semester on a high note Saturday afternoon, when the Lions defeated non-conference opponents Lycoming College and King's College in a tri-meet hosted at Lycoming's Lamade Natatorium.

Penn State Altoona notched its second and third dual meet wins of the season by defeating host Lycoming 153-30 to go along with a 145-67 victory over King's. The Lions won 10 of the meet's 12 events, led by Caden Traggiai (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch) and Shuo Sun (Falls Church, VA/China High Schools) each earning a pair of first-place finishes in individual swims.

Traggiai took first place in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 10:15.34, and his second win of the day came in the 500 Yard Freestyle, during which he clocked in at 5:00.17 to take the race's top spot. Sun prevailed in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:49.9, and he later finished first in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 49.14.

The Lions opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, where Gabe Krizel (Allentown, PA/Parkland), Brian Nguyen (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township), Ben Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), and Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) combined for a time of 1:44.07.

Adam Dotts later won the 50 Yard Freestyle in 22.69, and Ben Dotts followed that up with a first place in the 100 Yard Butterfly after he finished in 55.72. Nguyen secured first in the 100 Yard Breaststroke by clocking in at 1:04.01.

Penn State Altoona also won the meet's last two relay events. In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, Adam Dotts, Johnathan Bandy (Saint Marys, PA/Saint Marys), Krizel, and Sun posted a total time of 1:32.12 to place first, and the foursome of Pedro Teran (Allentown, PA/Parkland), Liam Fass (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley), Nick Trabucco (Carlisle, PA/Boiling Springs), and Traggiai won the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a team time of 3:32.02.

The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team will return to action next semester to pick up its 2025-26 schedule, beginning with a home dual meet against non-conference opponent Saint Vincent College on Saturday, January 17 at 1 p.m.
