Men’s Swimming Falls to Bearcats

LATROBE, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team traveled for its first dual meet of the semester on Saturday afternoon, when the Lions took a 148-107 loss to non-conference opponent Saint Vincent College at the Resnik Pool.

The Lions tallied six first-place finishes in the meet, led by two apiece from Shuo Sun (Falls Church, VA/China High Schools) and Caden Traggiai (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch).

Sun's first victory of the day came in the 200 Yard Freestyle, during which he posted a time of 1:49.65 to finish in first place. Later, he won the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 49.58.

Traggiai prevailed in the 1000 Yard Freestyle early in the meet, compiling a time of 10:19.62 to win the swim. His second win of the day was in the 500 Yard Freestyle when he finished in 4:57.98.

Ben Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) also earned a first-place finish when he came in atop the standings in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:08.19.

Penn State Altoona's sixth and final win of the meet was in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, in which Sun, Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), Gabe Krizel (Allentown, PA/Parkland), and Johnathan Bandy (Saint Marys, PA/Saint Marys) combined for a time of 1:31.66 to beat out the competition.

Other highlights from the meet included a slew of runner-up finishes by the Lions.

Penn State Altoona opened the men's meet by taking second place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, as Pedro Teran (Allentown, PA/Parkland), Brian Nguyen (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township), Sun, and Adam Dotts came together for a time of 1:43.85.

Krizel came in second during the 100 Yard Backstroke after clocking in at 56.98, and Nguyen was second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:05.30. Adam Dotts finished as the runner-up in the 50 Yard Freestyle by posting a time of 22.90, and Teran earned second place in the 200 Yard Backstroke after finishing in 2:05.45. Ben Dotts took second in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 55.46.

Penn State Altoona men's swimming is scheduled to return home next Saturday, January 24, for its final home meet of the 2025-26 season. That day, the Lions are slated to host a non-conference tri-meet with Juniata College and Elizabethtown College starting at 1 p.m. The date also marks the team's senior day.
