Lions Close Regular Season with 131-45 Defeat of Pitt-Bradford

BRADFORD, Pa. – In its final date of the regular season schedule, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team posted a 131-45 victory over conference foe Pitt-Bradford on Saturday afternoon in the Paul C. Duke III Aquatic Center.

Penn State Altoona prevailed in 10 of the day's 11 events to record its sixth dual meet win of the season. Ben Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) and Caden Traggiai (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch) led the Lion swimmers with a pair of individual first places each.

Dotts won the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 54.73, and he later came in first place during the 100 Yard Breaststroke after posting a time of 1:05.96. Traggiai took first in the 200 Yard Freestyle after clocking in at 1:51.57, and his time of 51.85 won him the 100 Yard Freestyle.

Penn State Altoona started the day with a first-place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, where the team of Nick Trabucco (Carlisle, PA/Boiling Springs), Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), Ben Dotts, and Johnathan Bandy (Saint Marys, PA/Saint Marys) came together for a time of 1:44.45. The Lions also had the runner-up team in the relay, as Gabe Krizel (Allentown, PA/Parkland), Jackson Ketterling (Bismarck, ND/Bismarck), Shuo Sun (Falls Church, VA/China High Schools), and Liam Fass (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) had a total time of 1:45.64.

In the next event, the 1000 Yard Freestyle, Pedro Teran (Allentown, PA/Parkland) secured a second-place finish by registering a time of 10:51.47. The 200 Yard Freestyle came next, with Traggiai earning his first win of the day. Adam Dotts was second with a time of 1:56.03, and Bandy took fourth place at 2:29.20.

Krizel picked up an individual win in the next event, the 50 Yard Freestyle, by finishing in 24.28. Mason Maroski (Markleysburg, PA/Uniontown) placed third with a time of 25.27, and Ketterling was fourth at 26.02.

Sun got in the individual win column during the next event, the 200 Yard IM, after he registered a time of 2:07.75 to take first place. Trabucco finished third in that swim with a time of 2:18.75.

After Ben Dotts' victory in the 100 Yard Butterfly, Traggiai picked up his second win of the afternoon in the 100 Yard Freestyle, during which Maroski came in second place with a time of 56.32. Teran followed that with a first-place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke, earning a time of 57.74.

Fass won the 500 Yard Freestyle after that, clocking in at 5:23.42 to seal first place. Trabucco was the third-place finisher in that event with a time of 5:32.30.

Ben Dotts recorded his second individual win of the day in the last individual swim of the meet, as he won the 100 Yard Breaststroke. Ketterling finished quickly behind, taking second place in that swim with a time of 1:06.99.

The Lions capped the meet by taking the top two places in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. In first place was the squad of Traggiai, Bandy, Fass, and Sun, who combined for a time of 1:33.24. Teammates Teran, Krizel, Maroski, and Adam Dotts were part of the second-place team that finished in 1:35.47.

Now, Penn State Altoona men's swimming will prepare for the State University of New York Athletic Conference Championships next month. The four-day conference finals, hosted at the Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center in Buffalo, N.Y., kick off Wednesday, February 18 and run through Saturday, February 21.
