Men's Swimming Finishes Fourth at SUNYAC Championships
BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team finished competing in the State University of New York Athletic Conference Championships, hosted at the Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center, today, placing fourth out of 11 teams.
Over the course of the SUNYAC Championships, the Lions had compiled a score of 412 points. Penn State Behrend held down first place in the standings with 836 points, while SUNY Cortland was in second with 719 points and SUNY Oswego was in third with 608 points.
Penn State Altoona started off the finals session with a gold medal and record-breaking performance in the 1650 Freestyle. Caden Traggiai (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch) won SUNYAC gold in the race, placing first with a time of 16:16.80. With this time, Traggiai also broke the program record for the 1650 Freestyle, beating his old record time of 16:21.72, which was set during the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship last year. Traggiai's 1000 Yard time of 9:47.90 within the 1650 set a record, breaking the previous record of 10:00.98, which was set by Traggiai on November 16 through the 18, 2023.
Liam Fass (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) also competed in the 1650 Freestyle, placing 14th after clocking a time of 18:26.97.
The Lions had three swimmers competing in the 200 Yard Backstroke. Pedro Teran (Allentown, PA/Parkland) competed in the 'A' finals finishing in 1:55.75 to place fourth. Competing in the 'B' finals were Gabe Krizel (Allentown, PA/Parkland) and Nick Trabucco (Carlisle, PA/Boiling Springs). Krizel finished in 1:58.27 to place ninth and Trabucco finished in 2:06.31 to place 13th.
In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Shuo Sun (Falls Church, VA/China High Schools) qualified for the 'A' cut of the race, placing fifth after finishing in 47.63. In the 'B' cut, Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) placed ninth after finishing in 47.51.
Jackson Ketterling (Bismarck, ND/Bismarck) qualified for the 'B' finals of the 200 Yard Breaststroke, clocking a time of 2:19.97 to place 11th.
The Lions had another record-breaking performance in the 200 Yard Butterfly. Ben Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) swam in the 'A' finals, placing fifth after clocking in at 1:59.00. With this time, Ben Dotts broke the previous record of 1:59.60, set by Hunter McMullen on February 22, 2025.
The Lions had their third record-breaking performance in the 400 Yard Relay. The team of Adam Dotts, Teran, Traggiai, and Sun combined for a time of 3:11.39 to place fourth. With this time, the team beat the previous record of 3:11.94 set by Adam Dotts, Traggiai, Rocco Solimeo, and Adam Marawan on February 17, 2024.
