Hess Receives AMCC Player of the Week Honors
NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona senior Casey Hess (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona) was chosen as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Player of the Week in men's tennis, as the league office released its weekly awards on Monday afternoon.
Hess, the Lions' No. 1 singles and doubles player, had a dominant week for Penn State Altoona, surrendering just two games in a combined nine sets of singles and doubles play against non-conference opponent Lycoming College and AMCC foe Pitt-Greensburg.
In Penn State Altoona's 6-1 victory at Lycoming on Friday, April 4, Hess posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory in singles and prevailed 6-1 in doubles. On Sunday, April, 6, the Lions swept conference opponent Pitt-Greensburg in a doubleheader, recording a pair of 7-0 wins. Hess won both of his singles matches on the day by 6-0, 6-0 decisions, and he also came away with a pair of 6-0 wins in doubles.
Hess is 8-3 overall in singles this season, including going 4-1 against AMCC opponents. In doubles matches, he holds a 6-4 overall record with a 3-2 mark in the conference.
Penn State Altoona men's tennis is 9-2 overall this season, including 4-1 within the AMCC. The Lions host nearby conference opponent Mount Aloysius College this Wednesday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. at Gorilla House Gym.
