Women’s Golf Starts the Melee in Eighth

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Penn State Altoona women's golf team returned to action on Sunday, when the Lions competed in the first round of The Melee, presented by Premier Collegiate Tournaments, at Ford's Colony Country Club.

Penn State Altoona shot its lowest round of the fall season, scoring 431 as a team to end round one in eighth place out of nine teams.

Alvernia University finished the first day in first place with 321, Drew University was in second with 331, and Bridgewater College was third with 340.

Lauren Thompson (Austin, TX/Anderson) had Penn State Altoona's low score, shooting 92 to finish the round in 24th place out of 44 individual golfers. Isabelle Dahl (Athens, PA/Athens) was in 34th place with 109, and Sabella Wu (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) was 37th with 113.

Isabelle Forcey (Clearfield, PA/DuBois Central Catholic) carded 117 to end the round in a tie for 39th place, and Alyssa Franks (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) held 43rd place after shooting 128.

Penn State Altoona women's golf will compete in the second and final day of The Melee tomorrow, Monday, October 21, with tee times scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
