Men’s Wrestling Debuts at Alvernia Tournament

READING, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's wrestling team made its anticipated return to the mats on Saturday after a four-decade hiatus from competition at Ivyside. Coach Tyshawn White's team made its debut at the Tonee Ellis Memorial Tournament, hosted by Alvernia University at The PLEX, ending the day ninth out of ten scoring teams.

Four Lions scored team points on the day, led by Jamell Locket at the 285-pound weight class. Locket earned three of the Lions' eight points on the day. Locket took two losses in sudden victory, first to Andrew Geisenheimer of Camden Community College in the championship bracket, before dropping his second match in extra time to Tyler Carter of Alvernia in the consolation bracket.

Two Lions secured two team points on the day, Isaiah Shilcosky at 141 and Seth Hoodye (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas) at 174. Shilcosky handled Western New England's Ryan Ouellette by tech fall, 15-0 in the consolation round. Hoodye also was a 16-0 tech fall winner over University of Maryland Baltimore County's Carlos Del Rio in the consolation round.

Rounding out the point earners for Penn State Altoona was Andrew Weaver (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) at 184. Weaver pinned Muhlenberg's Archie Rubin in the opening round of the championship bracket before falling in the quarterfinals.
