Men’s Wrestling Places Fifth at AMCC Championships
ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's wrestling team competed in its first-ever Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on Saturday at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center.
The Lions totaled 7.5 points as a team to finish in fifth place out of five squads.
Penn College won the AMCC title with 191 points, while host Penn State Behrend finished in second place with 127 points. Alfred State College placed third with 105.5, and Pitt-Bradford was fourth with 45.
Qualifying to wrestle for Penn State Altoona were Evan Davis (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) at 125, Remington Fleck (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) at 149, and Andrew Weaver (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) at 174. Davis and Weaver each recorded a win for the Lions.
Davis scored 4.5 points for Penn State Altoona in the 125 bracket. He began his day with a tech fall victory, 15-0, over Behrend's Hunter Williams in the preliminary round, before he lost by fall to Penn College's Justin Adams in the quarterfinal. Davis bounced back to defeat Pitt-Bradford's Cade Stern by fall in the first consolation round, then bowed out in the consolation semifinals after a loss to Alfred State's Ryan Farley.
Fleck started the 149 bracket with a loss, when Behrend's Steffan Lynch won by fall in their quarterfinal match. Fleck was eliminated in the opening consolation round, when Alfred State's Jayden Norris won by major decision, 16-7.
Weaver, in the 174 bracket, started off with a loss, as Penn College's Travis Green won by fall in the quarterfinal round. Weaver came back with a victory, winning by fall over Behrend's Matthew Melchior in the first consolation round match. But Penn College's Cole Shupp won in sudden victory, 6-3, against Weaver in the consolation semifinal to eliminate him. Weaver's performance in 174 netted three points for the Lions.
