Men’s Wrestling Competes in Region III Tournament

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's wrestling team got back on the mats Friday, when the Lions competed in the NCAA Division III Region III regional tournament, hosted by Messiah University at its Hitchcock Arena.

Three Lions were in action for Penn State Altoona in the double-elimination tournament: freshmen Evan Davis (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) at 125, Remington Fleck (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) at 149, and Andrew Weaver (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) at 174.

Davis qualified to start in the championship round of the 125 bracket, where he lost by tech fall, 16-1, to Alvernia's Keito Shaw in the first match. After dropping to the consolation bracket, Davis lost by major decision, 10-0, to Misericordia's Jaydin Barreto.

Fleck's first match of the day was in the championship round of the 149 bracket, and the freshman lost by tech fall, 19-2, to Misericordia's Michael Williams. After that, Fleck moved to the consolation bracket and took his second loss of the day by tech fall, 20-5, to Marymount's Pahris Petalas.

Weaver's day in the 174 bracket opened in the preliminaries, where he suffered a pair of losses. Misericordia's Anthony Matas posted a win by major decision, 16-2, over Weaver in the first prelim match, before Johns Hopkins' Connor Powell won a 9-6 decision against Weaver in the next prelim.

With their three wrestlers eliminated, the Lions finished in 18th place on the team leaderboard.

Today's tournament concludes the 2024-25 schedule for the Penn State Altoona men's wrestling team. In its inaugural NCAA season, the Lions competed in eight dates, consisting of six dual meets and four tournaments. Penn State Altoona took a fifth-place finish in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships earlier this month.
