Men’s Wrestling Falls to Waynesburg
WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's wrestling team hit the road for its first dual meet of the season on Friday night, when the Lions were dealt a 45-0 loss by non-conference opponent Waynesburg University in the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
Tammar Reza (Montgomery, NJ/Montgomery), Andrew Weaver (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone), and Gonzalo Santana Hernandez (Short Hills, NJ/Millburn) competed for the Lions, with Reza wrestling at 125, Weaver at 174, and Hernandez at 184.
In the 125 bout, Reza took a loss when he was pinned at 58 seconds by Ryland Parker. No matches were held at the 133 and 149 weight classes, and Waynesburg added to its lead with forfeit wins at 141, 157, and 165, going up 24-0.
In the 174 match, Weaver battled Jessie Orbin but ultimately lost by decision, 9-4. Hernandez was pinned at 1:49 by AJ Tomaino in the 184 bout, and Waynesburg upped its lead to 33-0. The Yellow Jackets made it 45-0 on forfeits at 197 and 285.
Next up, Penn State Altoona men's wrestling returns to Ivyside for its first home event of the season, as the Lions will host non-conference opponent Bethany College for a dual meet on Wednesday, November 12 in Adler Arena. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
