Men’s Wrestling Faces Bison in Home Opener
ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's wrestling team was in Adler Arena on Wednesday night for its first home event of the season, in which the Lions took a 57-0 loss to non-conference opponent Bethany College in a dual meet.
Penn State Altoona's Tammar Reza (Montgomery, NJ/Montgomery) opened the meet competing at 125, where he took a loss from Angelo Di Pol in 1:18. Bethany added another six points to its score in the 133 match, then made it 17-0 in the 141 bout, where the Lions' Oliver Garcia (Bridgeport, CT/Great Oaks Charter) lost in a tech fall to Braylon Leiffer.
The Bison stacked 18 more points in the next three weight classes, then added four points to their total at 174, when the Lions' Andrew Weaver (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) lost a 10-1 major decision to Jonathan Braun. Gonzalo Santana Hernandez (Short Hills, NJ/Millburn) followed at 184 for Penn State Altoona and lost to Christopher Dreher.
Bethany posted wins at 197 and 285 to wrap up the match with a 57-0 score over the Lions.
Next up, Penn State Altoona men's wrestling gets back on the road this upcoming weekend, when they will compete in the Brent Lancaster Memorial Duals on Saturday, November 15. The event, hosted by Marymount University, is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
