ALTOONA, Pa. – After the teams were deadlocked in a scoreless tie at halftime, Pitt-Greensburg put three goals on the board in the second half to defeat the Penn State Altoona women's soccer team 3-0 on Wednesday night at Spring Run Stadium.
Pitt-Greensburg (12-0, 4-0 AMCC) got goals from Ashley Lucas, Andi McGinnis, and Alexsia Barlamas to stay undefeated this season, both overall and within the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
For Penn State Altoona (4-6-2, 2-2-1 AMCC), Kaitlyn Harmon (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) made five saves in goal. Kierra Irwin (Altoona, PA/Altoona) led the Lady Lions in shots, attempting five and putting two of them on goal.
Penn State Altoona played a strong defensive half in the first period, keeping the visitors off of the scoreboard while limiting them to just three total shots.
But Pitt-Greensburg's offense awoke in the second half to put three goals on the board.
The Lady Bobcats made it 1-0 just 1:19 into the second, when Tiffany Michalek's centering pass found Lucas, who tapped a shot into the net for her AMCC-leading 16th goal of the season.
Pitt-Greensburg increased its lead to 2-0 at 73:38, when McGinnis took a pass from Hawa Janneh at the top of the box and sent a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal. Barlamas scored an unassisted goal at 87:08, when a saved shot deflected back to her, and she sent the ball into the open goal.
Pitt-Greensburg finished with advantages over Penn State Altoona in shots attempted (15-8), shots on goal (8-4), and corner kicks (8-6).
Penn State Altoona women's soccer returns to the road for its next game, which is this Saturday, October 12 at AMCC opponent Penn State Behrend. That game, which is slated to start at 4:30 p.m., has been tabbed as the AMCC Game of the Week.
