Martin, Roman Sweep Weekly AMCC Awards

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer swept the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's weekly awards in the sport, as the conference office announced two Lions were the recipients of this week's accolades on Monday.

Freshman defender Kylei Martin (Mifflinburg, PA/Mifflinburg) was selected as the AMCC Defensive Player of the Week, while sophomore forward Emilee Roman (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) was chosen as the conference's Offensive Player of the Week. Both players were instrumental in the Lions' two wins last week, including the team's first-round AMCC Tournament victory.

Penn State Altoona defeated nearby conference rival Mount Aloysius College 1-0 at home last Tuesday, October 29, then won its playoff tournament opener at home on Saturday, November 2, by a 5-0 score over Alfred State College.

Martin helped lead a Lions' defensive effort that kept Mount Aloysius and Alfred State off the scoreboard, while limiting the Mounties and Pioneers to a combined eight shots on goal. Additionally, the freshman notched an assist in each contest.

Roman scored her first collegiate hat trick in Saturday's win against Alfred State, including tallying the game-winning goal. She finished the week with six shots on goal.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer is 6-8-2 overall, including a 5-2-1 record within the AMCC during the regular season. The Lions' next AMCC Tournament game is this Wednesday, November 6, when the team will travel to face Pitt-Greensburg at 7 p.m. in a semifinal round matchup.
