Women’s Swimming Returns to Action, Falls to LHU
ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team competed in its first event of the spring semester on Friday evening in the Adler Natatorium, where the Lions dropped a dual meet with Division II opponent Lock Haven University by a score of 155-86.
Penn State Altoona recorded one first-place finish in the meet while also having nine second places.
McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) had the Lions' lone victory of the night when she placed first in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:07.45. She later achieved runner-up status in the 200 Yard Backstroke after finishing in 2:26.43.
Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) nabbed a trio of individual second places throughout the meet. She took second in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 26.96, was the runner-up in the 100 Yard Freestyle after clocking in at 58.91, and came in second in the 200 Yard IM by recording a time of 2:27.64.
Ayva Harris (Monroeville, PA/Gateway) was the second-place finisher in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:16.00, and Emma Fraundorfer (Altoona, PA/Altoona) later placed second in the 200 Yard Butterfly after finishing in 2:42.15. In the latter stages of the meet, Alexis Buchala (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua) took second in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:58.93.
The Lions bookended the meet with second places in the relay events. Penn State Altoona opened the night by coming in second during the 200 Yard Medley Relay, where the team of Julia Daley (Langorne, PA/Neshaminy), Harris, Teah Sponsler (Halifax, PA/Halifax), and Fraundorfer combined for a time of 2:02.02. The Lions placed second in the final event, the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, after Holl, Daley, Fraundorfer, and Coleman compiled a time of 1:48.85.
Next up, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team will host another home meet next Friday, January 24, when the Lions will take on non-conference opponent Lebanon Valley College in a dual starting at 6 p.m.
