Women's Swimming Beats McDaniel 128-75

ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team secured its first dual meet win of the season on Saturday, beating non-conference opponent McDaniel 128-75. 

Penn State Altoona totaled nine first place finishes in the victory, with eight coming in individual swims and one in relay events. Claire Smith (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley) got the Lions' first win of the day, finishing first place in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, as she clocked a time of 12:25.52. Smith would also get a win in the 100 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 59.48. She would be the only woman to finish the event in under a minute. 

Paige Goray (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) got a second consecutive event win for the Lions in the 200 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 2:13.45.  

Victoria Oldford (Bucks County, PA/Palisades) got in on the action with a win of her own in the 50 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 26:51. Oldford also found victory in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, clocking a time of 1:12.75.  

In the 100 Yard Butterfly, Téah Sponsler (Halifax, PA/Halifax) finished first with a time of 1:10.51.  

Drew Porter (Centreville, VA/Centreville) won the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:06.16.  

Anna Heller (Chesapeake, VA/Huntingdon) prevailed in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:50.76.  

Smith, Heller, Porter, and Alexis Buchala (Tamaqua, PA/Tamaqua) teamed up to get first place in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, clocking in at 1:53.05. 

Up next, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team will have their first road meet of the season, traveling to face Lock Haven University on Saturday, November 15 at 11:00 a.m.
