Women’s Tennis Edges D-II Clarion for 4-3 Win

CLARION, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team got back in the win column Saturday afternoon, starting its weekend road trip with a tight 4-3 victory over Division II opponent Clarion University at the Campbell Courts.

Clarion (0-2) got off to a strong start in the match, winning two out of three in doubles to earn the opening point. But Penn State Altoona (3-2) came back to win by a point after taking four out of six in singles play.

Clarion won the top two doubles matches, with Penn State Altoona salvaging a victory in the No. 3 match, where the duo of Daniel Fulton (Milford, DE/Milford)/Lexi Colaianni (Pittsburgh, PA/Kiski Area) earned their fourth win together, thanks to a 6-1 decision over their opponents.

The Lions were able to dig out of their early hole in singles play. In the No. 2 match, Rachel Stricek (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) prevailed 6-1, 6-1 for her fourth win of the season, while Sienna Fell (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) battled for a 6-3, 6-7, 10-7 triumph in the No. 3 spot for her third win. Abigail Morgan (Orrville, OH/Orrville) followed with a 6-3, 6-3 victory in the No. 4 singles match for her third win of the year, and Colaianni blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 match for her fourth victory.

Penn State Altoona gets right back to action tomorrow, Sunday, September 15, when the Lions will return to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play by facing league opponent Penn State Behrend at 11 a.m. in Erie.
