Women’s Tennis Blanks Mounties, 7-0
ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team got back on the courts Tuesday evening for its second match of the spring semester, and the Lions posted a 7-0 victory over Mount Aloysius College in non-conference play at the Gorilla House Gym.
Penn State Altoona (8-11) put together a dominant performance to snap its six-match skid, winning all three doubles matches and all six singles matches to deal Mount Aloysius (1-8) a loss.
At No. 1 doubles, the team of Rachel Stricek (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone)/Caitlin Blessel (Saint Marys, PA/Saint Marys) recorded a 6-1 victory for their fourth win of the season together. In the No. 2 doubles match, the duo of Sienna Fell (Canonsburg, PA/Canonsburg)/Daniel Fulton (Milford, DE/Milford) earned a 6-2 win for their first victory together. Penn State Altoona picked up a point with a forfeit win in No. 3 doubles.
Penn State Altoona continued its command of the match during singles play. In the No. 1 spot, Stricek picked up her ninth win of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over her opponent, and Blessel got her third victory of the year in the No. 2 match, where she prevailed 6-3, 6-2. Fell defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-0 in No. 3 singles for her fifth win, Abigail Morgan (Orrville, OH/Orrville) got a 6-4, 6-2 triumph in the No. 4 slot for her eighth victory, and Lexi Colaianni (Pittsburgh, PA/Kiski Area) recorded her 13th win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 5 match. The Lions won the No. 6 match via a forfeit.
Next up, Penn State Altoona women's tennis will play its final home match of the 2024-25 season on Sunday, April 6, when the Lions take on non-conference opponent Thiel College starting at 2 p.m.
