Women’s Tennis Blanks Waynesburg 7-0

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team finished its opening weekend of the 2025 season with a 2-0 record, as the Lions took care of non-conference opponent Waynesburg University 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Bechtle Family Tennis Facility.

Penn State Altoona (2-0) won all three doubles matches in dominant fashion to score the first point of the day, then proceeded to claim victory in each of the six singles matches to defeat Waynesburg (0-1) by seven points.

In doubles, the No. 1 team of Caitlin Blessel (Saint Marys, PA/Saint Marys)/Rachel Stricek (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) posted a 6-1 victory. Abigail Morgan (Orrville, OH/Orrville)/Sienna Fell (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) won 6-3 in the No. 2 spot, and Lexi Colaianni (Pittsburgh, PA/Kiski Area)/Daniel Fulton (Milton, DE/Milton) blanked their opponents 6-0 in the No. 3 doubles match.

Penn State Altoona carried its momentum into the singles portion of the match, where the Lions took care of business and rattled off six more points.

In No. 1 singles, Blessel topped her opponent 6-1, 6-2, and Stricek posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 match. Colaianni won 6-2, 6-4 in No. 3 singles, and Fell fought for a tiebreak win in the No. 4 match by a 6-3, 2-6, 10-5 decision. Morgan had a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at No. 5 singles, and Fulton rounded out the lineup with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 6 slot.

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's tennis has its home opener on Sunday, September 7 when the Lions host non-conference opponent Saint Vincent College for a 1 p.m. contest at the Adler Tennis Courts.
