"Tick" Hedrick-Sheaffer Memorial Volleyball Match
Penn State Altoona Athletics and the Varsity A Club will celebrate the life of longtime coach, staff member, and benefactor, Olana "Tick" Hedrick-Sheaffer. On Saturday, November 1, the Penn State Altoona women's volleyball team takes on Penn State Behrend in a pivotal late-season AMCC matchup. Opening serve is set for 1 p.m. in the Adler Arena.
Hedrick-Sheaffer passed away on May 27, 2025.
Former players, staff and friends from Hedrick-Sheaffer's career are invited to attend for light refreshments starting at 11:30 a.m. through opening serve with a remembrance offered during the game. Memories collected through archives will be on display to celebrate the life and memory of the beloved coach, mentor, and friend.

Hedrick-Sheaffer was the first multiple-time inductee in the Penn State Altoona Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame, inducted for her coaching accomplishments as a Distinguished Achievement Inductee in 2023. Her 1995 volleyball team was inducted into the inaugural Penn State Altoona Athletics Hall of Fame class in 2021.
She was an instructor in Kinesiology at Penn State Altoona for 35 years, retiring in 2009. She was the women's volleyball coach for 28 years, the men's club volleyball coach for six years, and the women's tennis and basketball coach for one year.
Her teams earned 13 Commonwealth Campus titles, eight Western PA Conference titles, and four Pennsylvania State Conference titles.
She was Conference Coach of the Year 11 times, with a 505-175 record in her career.
Aside from her coaching record, she was a member of the Ivyside Society of Penn State Altoona and a 1997 recipient of the Robert J. Scannell Roll of Honor award for outstanding service to the Commonwealth Education System in Recreation and Sports at Penn State Altoona.
