Forfeits Cost Women's Wrestling Against Yellow Jackets

WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's wrestling team continued their 2025-26 season traveling to face the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets. Despite a strong performance, the Lions lost to the Yellow Jackets 25-20. 

For the Lions, Naomi Nachmias (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) wrestled in the 103 class, Richele Reyes (Buckingham, UK/Alconbury) competed at 124, Gianna Slusser (Raleigh, NC/Garner Magnet) was at 131, and Aliana Romero (Bridgeport, CT/Warren Harding) wrestled at 145. 

Nachmias won by forfeit to give the Lions a 5-0 lead. Following a double forfeit by the Lions, Reyes won via forfeit to equalize the score at 10-10. 

Slusser pinned Melanie Matherson to give the Lions another victory, making the score 15-10. 

After another forfeit by the Lions, Romero beat Calista Binning in the 145 class to make the score 20-15.  

Following two forfeits, the final score would be 25-20 in favor of Waynesburg.  

Alongside their pins in their respective dual matches, Nachmias and Slusser would get pins in their exhibition matches.  

Penn State Altoona women's wrestling will compete in their first home match of the season next Wednesday, November 12, against Bethany College. The dual match is scheduled to take place at 6:00 p.m.
