Lions Edge Mountain Cats, 20-19
ALTOONA Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's wrestling team hosted Pitt-Johnstown at Adler Arena Wednesday evening, when they defeated the Mountain Cats 20-19.
The win was highlighted with a victory by fall for Naomi Nachmias (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) and a victory by technical fall for Richele Reyes (Buckingham, UK/Alconbury).
The dual started with the Lions putting five points on the scoreboard through a forfeit in the 103-weight class.
In the 110-weight class, Nachmias won via fall at 3:25 against Pitt-Johnstown's Leah Shoemaker to add five more points to the scoreboard.
In the next bout, 124, Reyes got an 11-0 technical fall victory over Isabel Alvarez to make it 14-0 in favor of the Lions.
In the 131 bout, Makayla Paclib downed Gianna Slusser (Raleigh, NC/Garner Magnet) by technical fall, 12-2.
In the 138, 145, and 160 classes, Pitt-Johnstown would get victories by forfeit to make the score 19-15.
A forfeit in the 180-class would give the Lions the victory, 20-19.
For their next meet, the Penn State Altoona women's wrestling team travels to Dallas, Pa., where they will face Misericordia University on Monday, January 12. The dual is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
