Meanwhile, Lion pitchers allowed just one earned run in the game while surrendering only five hits and one walk to Waynesburg. Ryan Schellhase (Fayetteville, PA/Chambersburg) got the start and earned his first collegiate win, going five innings and limiting the Yellow Jackets to four hits, one earned run, and no walks to go along with three strikeouts. Ryan Jackson (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) tossed one scoreless inning with two strikeouts, and Cole Strick (Windber, PA/Windber) pitched a spotless frame with one strikeout.

Penn State Altoona grabbed the lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI double down the right-field line from Rauch. The Lions made it 3-0 in the second, thanks to an RBI single to left from Donovan and Jarek Szaflarski's (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) run-scoring groundout to shortstop.

Penn State Altoona tacked four more runs on to its total in the third. RBI singles from Ingold and Labisi gave the Lions a five-run lead, and Donovan drove in two more with his base hit to left.

The Lions' offense continued to produce in the top of the fourth. Chelli led off with a double and later scored on an infield error, and Colón's two-run double to left made it 10-0. The next batter, Labisi, knocked in two more runs with his single to left center, extending Penn State Altoona's lead to 12-0.

Waynesburg broke through for a pair of runs in the bottom half of the fourth, as Jose Lopez scored on a wild pitch and Luke Buckner drove in a run with a base hit.

Penn State Altoona upped its advantage to 14-2 in the fifth, when two-out RBI singles from Colón and Labisi closed the scoring for the rest of the way.

Game Two: Penn State Altoona 3, Waynesburg 2

Game two of the doubleheader followed a different script, as the Lions found themselves in a close battle with Waynesburg. Penn State Altoona led 3-0 after four and was able to hang on for a one-run victory over the Yellow Jackets.

Chelli and Benjamin Ettien (Media, PA/Penncrest) combined for four of Penn State Altoona's seven hits in the game. Chelli went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI, and one run scored, and Ettien was also 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Colón, Ingold, and Owen Dombrosky (Hollidaysburg, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) also had one hit apiece for the Lions.

Rauch took the ball for game two, going the distance to record his first collegiate complete game and notch his first win of the season. The left-hander pitched seven innings, allowed two runs on three hits and a walk, and struck out eight Yellow Jacket batters.

Penn State Altoona took advantage of a Waynesburg error in the top of the first to jump out to another early lead. Chelli doubled to left with one out, then scored on a throwing error during the play to put the Lions on the board.

Penn State Altoona doubled its lead in the third inning. Judd Dasso (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood) led off with a walk, stole second base, then scored on Chelli's RBI double to left. In the fourth, the Lions came up with a two-out, run-scoring hit to make it 3-0, after Ingold led off with a double and later scored on Ettien's RBI single through the left side.

Waynesburg capitalized with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a one-run game, as Kaden Flambard's two-run single narrowed the Penn State Altoona lead to 3-2.

The Yellow Jackets threatened in the bottom of the seventh, when the home team put the potential go-ahead run on base. With one out, Brayden Krebbs reached on an error, and in the next at-bat, Sam Watson reached base on a throwing error to put two runners on for Waynesburg. But Rauch and the Lions got out of danger with a strikeout and flyout, icing the victory and the doubleheader sweep.

Next up, Penn State Altoona opens Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play this Saturday, March 21, when the Lions will host Penn State Behrend for a doubleheader. The location of those games has been shifted to Claysburg-Kimmel High School due to field conditions on campus, and the start time remains 1 p.m. as originally scheduled.
