Late Goals Push Men's Soccer Past Hawks on Senior Day

ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team faced the Hilbert Hawks for their senior day game on Saturday afternoon. Penn State Altoona would come from behind twice to beat the Hawks 3-2.

Before the game seniors Ethan McDowell (Armagh, PA/Johnstown Christian), Ethan Firth (York, PA/Central York), Gabe Deppen (New Cumberland, PA/Trinity), Frank Kasperowicz (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick), Aaron Lamy-Ramsden (Trinidad and Tobago/St. Benedict's College), and Awad Eltayeb (Khartoum, Sudan/Altoona) were honored for their contributions to Penn State Altoona men's soccer.

Both Hilbert (4-7-3, 1-5-2 AMCC) and Penn State Altoona (3-11, 2-5 AMCC) threatened early, with seven shots being exchanged in the first 15 minutes of the match. The Hawks would strike first though, scoring in the 23rd minute to make it 1-0. Although there were more chances, the halftime score would be 1-0.

The second half would see more goals scored between the two sides. Felipe Velarde (Panama/Colegio Real de Panama) started things off, setting up Jackson Conner (Selinsgrove, PA/Northumberland Christian) to make it 1-1. Penn State Altoona would get the opportunity to make it 2-1 in the 62nd minute, as Velarde hit the lower side of the crossbar, but it would bounce out to keep the score at 1-1.

Hilbert would once again take the lead in the 78th minute through a goal from Kaleb O'Connor. Penn State Altoona responded in the 85th minute, with Firth heading the ball into the net off a corner kick by Matias Harte (State College, PA/State College). It wouldn't be the last goal for Penn State Altoona though, as Velarde would get his brace and Harte would have his second assist of the game.

Penn State Altoona men's soccer remains at home for their next game against La Roche on Tuesday, October 28. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
