Men’s Tennis Blanks Mounties on Senior Day
ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team reeled off its third straight win to open the 2024-25 season on Thursday afternoon, when the Lions won their Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opener by a 7-0 decision over Mount Aloysius College at the Adler Tennis Courts.
Prior to the start of the match, the Lions recognized seniors Casey Hess (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona) and Parth Raval (Mumbai, India/Thakur Polytechnic) on their Senior Day.
After that, Penn State Altoona (3-0, 1-0 AMCC) proceeded to handle Mount Aloysius (2-5, 0-1 AMCC) by sweeping doubles and singles play to pick up a 7-0 victory over the visiting Mounties.
In doubles, the team of Andrew Chronister (York, PA/Dallastown)/Hess recorded their second win of the season with a 6-4 victory over their opponents in the No. 1 match. In the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots, respectively, the pairs of Kadyn Carey (Altoona, PA/Altoona)/Gabriel Lopez (Wilmette, IL/New Trier Township) and Nick Beard (Manns Choice, PA/Bedford)/Jackson Newell (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) both prevailed by scores of 6-0.
Penn State Altoona continued the success in singles, where the Lions came out on top in all six matches. Hess got his second win of the season at No. 1, where he prevailed 6-2, 6-3. Chronister had a 7-5, 6-0 victory at No. 2, and Beard battled for a 7-5, 4-6, 10-4 tiebreak win at No. 3, for their third triumphs of the season. Newell earned a 6-0, 6-3 decision over his opponent for his third win of the fall, and Wilhelm Grot (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) won 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 5 match for his second victory of the season. Raval wrapped up singles play with his first win, a 6-1, 6-1 decision over his opponent in the No. 6 match.
The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team's next scheduled match against non-conference opponent Saint Vincent College on the road, scheduled for this Saturday, October 12, has been postponed due to scheduling conflicts.
After the postponement, the Lions will remain at home to face non-conference opponent Brevard College on its northern road trip. Penn State Altoona will host Brevard on Wednesday, October 16, at 4:30 p.m.
