Lions Edged 4-3 by Behrend
ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team traveled north to compete against Penn State Behrend at Westwood Racquet Club, where they lost 4-3.
Penn State Behrend (7-2, 1-0 AMCC) recorded the first point on the scoresheet after winning two out of three in doubles, and Behrend split with Penn State Altoona (4-4, 2-1 AMCC) in singles to post a one-point match victory.
The Lions picked up a win in the No. 3 doubles, where Emmett Hibbs (Richfield, PA/East Juniata) and Jackson Newell (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) picked up their second win of the season with a 6-2 decision over their opponents. However, Penn State Behrend triumphed in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
Singles play was tight, as Nick Beard (Manns Choice, PA/Bedford) got his sixth win of the season, defeating his opponent 4-6, 6-4 and 10-4 in a tiebreaker set to equalize the score at 1-1. Ivan Bene (York, PA/Lancaster Country Day) gave the Lions the lead after winning 7-5, 6-2 in No. 2 singles. The win is Bene's fifth of the season. In No. 4 singles, Newell won 2-6, 7-5 and 10-8 in a tiebreaker set for his sixth win of the season.
Penn State Altoona men's tennis remains on the road for their next match, as they face Washington & Jefferson tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
