Fries, Fisher Sweep AMCC Men’s Volleyball Weekly Awards

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona men's volleyball team picked up two more weekly awards on Monday afternoon, when the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference announced its players of the week.

Freshman opposite hitter Caleb Fries (Altoona, PA/Altoona) was tabbed as the AMCC's Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore middle blocker Landen Fisher (Altoona, PA/Altoona) was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week. Fries and Fisher helped lead the Penn State Altoona men's volleyball team to a pair of 3-1 road wins last week against Wilson College and Mount Aloysius College.

Last Wednesday night at Wilson, Fries scored a match-high 17.5 points on 10 kills, a match-leading six service aces, one solo block, and one block assist. The freshman followed that up by leading all players in Sunday afternoon's match at Mount Aloysius with 18 points on 15 kills, four block assists, and an ace.

On the week, Fries had 35.5 points (4.4 points per set), 25 kills (3.13 kills per set), seven aces (0.88 aces per set), and six total blocks (0.75 blocks per set), with an attack percentage of .242. He currently leads the AMCC in kills (210), kills per set (3.33), aces (33), aces per set (0.52), points (266.0), and points per set (4.2).

Fisher led all players in total blocks on Wednesday against Wilson, putting up four block assists in the victory. The sophomore again had a match-high block total on Sunday at Mount Aloysius, when he racked up six block assists and one solo block.

On the week, Fisher had 11 total blocks (one solo block, 10 block assists) and averaged 1.38 blocks per set. Among all players in the AMCC, he currently ranks third in block assists (36) and total blocks per set (0.79) while being seventh in total blocks (38).

Penn State Altoona men's volleyball is 10-7 overall this season. The Lions continue their schedule this Friday, March 7, and Saturday, March 8, in the Nazareth University Tournament.
