McKenna Nabs AMCC Defensive Player of the Week Honors
LATROBE, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's volleyball's sophomore outside hitter Jack McKenna (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) was selected the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
McKenna continued to provide steady defense for the Lions, who went 3-1 during their final regular-season stretch of AMCC road matches last week.
McKenna tallied seven digs in Penn State Altoona's 3-0 sweep of Mount Aloysius College last Tuesday, March 31, then followed that up with one dig in another 3-0 victory on Wednesday, April 1, when the Lions downed Carlow University.
The sophomore registered 10 digs and a block assist on Friday, April 3, when Penn State Altoona lost a tight, five-set battle with Buffalo State University. McKenna capped his week by recording a career-high 22 digs in the Lions' 3-1 triumph over Hilbert College on Saturday, April 4.
On the week, McKenna totaled 40 digs across 14 sets, averaging 2.86 digs per set. He also posted a .947 reception percentage on the week. The sophomore currently ranks fourth in the AMCC in total digs (209) and digs per set (2.32).
This is McKenna's first career AMCC Defensive Player of the Week award.
Penn State Altoona men's volleyball is 9-16 overall, including a 7-5 mark within the AMCC. The Lions, who earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming conference postseason tournament, will face No. 1 seed Buffalo State in a semifinal round playoff match this Wednesday, April 8, at 7 p.m. in Buffalo.
