BUFFALO, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona women's volleyball opened Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play on Saturday at Medaille College's Sullivan Center, winning 3-2 over Medaille before losing 3-0 to Penn State Behrend.
In its first match of the day, Penn State Altoona (3-10, 1-1 AMCC) came back from a 2-1 deficit to win. The Lady Lions battled for a 31-29 win in the opening set before Medaille (2-11, 0-1 AMCC) came back to win the next two by scores of 25-22 and 25-15. But Penn State Altoona bounced back with a 25-21 win in the fourth, then took the fifth set 15-10.
Kelsey Bristol (Troy, PA/Troy) posted career-highs with 26 kills and five service aces to lead the Lady Lions. Her total of 26 kills is tied for the second-most in a single match in Penn State Altoona women's volleyball history, and it is also tied for the most in a five-set match in team history. Additionally, Bristol's 31 points in the match are tied for the most in a five-set match in program history and tied for the second-most in any match. She also led her team in the match with 17 digs.
Lauren Moran (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) had a team-high 27 assists while adding 12 digs and three aces. Emily Bryan (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) posted 17 assists and six digs. Alyson Onder (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle) finished with 12 digs, and Lea Crofcheck (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) tied for the team-high in blocks with one solo and one assist.
However, Penn State Altoona suffered a 3-0 loss to Penn State Behrend (9-7, 2-0 AMCC) in its second match of the day, falling 25-12, 25-17, 25-18.
Bristol led the Lady Lions with six kills and 14 digs. Cassaday and Eden Taddei (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) added four kills each.
Moran put up 16 assists, eight digs, and three aces, and Bryan had four assists and 10 digs. Onder finished with 12 digs.
Next up, Penn State Altoona women's volleyball ventures back into non-conference play when it will travel to face Shenandoah University on Wednesday, September 26 at 7:30 p.m.
