Men’s Soccer Downed by Alfred
ALFRED, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team hit the road to face non-conference opponent Alfred University on Saturday, when the Lions suffered a 5-0 loss at the hands of the Saxons at Yunevich Stadium.
Alfred (1-1) scored two goals in the first half, then broke the game open with three more tallies in the second period.
Tyler Tardiff (Chadds Ford, PA/Garnet Valley) got the nod at goalkeeper for Penn State Altoona (0-2) and made five stops in 76:45 of work. Alejandro Monjarretz (Managua, Nicaragua/St. Augustine Preparatory School) made two saves between the pipes while working the game's final 13:15 for the Lions.
Matias Harte (State College, PA/State College) and Niko Ferrales (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional) each had two shot attempts for Penn State Altoona, and Anderson Portzline (Port Royal, PA/Juniata) recorded one shot on goal.
Alfred scored the day's first goal in the seventh minute, when Niko Lampros found the back of the net at 6:18. Sawyer Zgoda's goal at 19:45 made it 2-0, and the Saxons ultimately took a two-goal advantage into halftime.
The home team padded its lead in the second half, getting scores from Xavier Bowman, Hazma Kromah, and Cameron Daley to make it 5-0.
Next up, Penn State Altoona men's soccer travels to non-conference foe Waynesburg University on Wednesday, September 3 for a 6 p.m. contest with the Yellow Jackets.
