Men's Soccer Loses to Panthers Despite Bright Start

ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team remained at home for a Saturday game against Pitt Bradford. After a bright start, things would go downhill for the Lions in the second half as they would lose to the Panthers 4-1.

Thirty seconds into the game, Penn State Altoona (1-10, 0-4 AMCC) would have a 1-0 lead through a Niko Ferrales driven effort. Pitt Bradford (5-7-1, 1-3 AMCC) would threaten the rest of the half, getting seven shots off, but would not break through.

Unfortunately for the Lions, things would change in the second half. In the 48th minute, Felipe Velarde would get the opportunity to make it two for the Lions but would hit his shot off the post. This missed opportunity and others would come to haunt the Lions as the Panthers would make the most of their opportunities.

In the 51st minute, Bailee Verdill would break through for the Panthers, putting the ball in the back of the net to even the score at 1-1. One minute later, Daniel Hartman scored to make it 2-1 in favor of the Panthers.

Pitt Bradford would keep up the pressure, getting rewarded again in the 64th minute as Brady Hathaway scored the Panthers' third goal of the game.

There was a goal in the first thirty seconds of the game, and there would be a goal in the last thirty seconds of the game as Zhennan Sun would score to make the final score 4-1 in favor of the Panthers.

Goalkeeper Tyler Tardiff would get the start between the sticks and would make six saves. Velarde and Matias Harte would each get three shots on goal, while Ethan Firth, Gabe Deppen, and Ferrales would each get one shot on goal.

For their next game, Penn State Altoona men's soccer travels to Alfred, N.Y. for their next game, where they will face Alfred State. The match is scheduled to take place next Saturday, October 18, at 3:00 p.m.
