Men's Soccer Gets First Conference Win Against Celtics

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team played in Highmark Stadium for their final road game of the season Wednesday afternoon. The Lions had their scoring boots on today, as they scored four goals to beat Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Carlow 4-1. 

Felipe Velarde (Panama/Colegio Real de Panama) would get the scoring started for the Lions (2-11, 1-5 AMCC), scoring off an assist from Jackson Conner (Selinsgrove, PA/Northumberland Christian) to make it 1-0.  

The second half would see more scoring for both teams. In the 52nd minute, Conner would score off a rebound from a free kick to double the Lions' lead. Ten minutes later, Velarde would get his brace, scoring off a blocked shot to give the Lions a 3-0 lead. 

Carlow (2-11, 0-7 AMCC) would hit back, with Nat Rosario scoring after a free kick in the 74th minute. However, the Celtics would not mount a comeback, conceding an own goal to make the final score 4-1.  

In net, Tyler Tardiff (Chadds Ford, PA/Garnet Valley) would start, making seven saves. Colin Murphy (State College, PA/State College), Matias Harte (State College, PA/State College), Anderson Portzline (Port Royal, PA/Juniata), and Conner each had one shot on goal. Velarde had three shots on goal.  

The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team will return home to Spring Run Stadium this Saturday, October 25, for their senior day as they take on Hilbert. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
